How to Access the Campbell 'Biology' text electronically:
You can access the Pearson (publisher) site using the class code that I will provide to you (after you email me with a request). Enter the code here:
Once you have successfully accessed the site, create a user name and PW. Make it something you will remember, as I will NOT have access to your personal info! Then, log out and DO NOT go to the above link and enter the access code again.
Next, go to: http://www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com/northamerica/masteringbiology/
and log in with your newly created user name and PW. This allows you to get the e-text, reading guides, chapter reviews, practice quizzes, virtual labs, etc. *Bookmark this site, as you will use it often.
Although this is not a summer assignment, it is a semester long project that begins the first day of school and some may want to get a jump start early. Click here for information regarding 'HeLa'. FYI- The first installment is due 8/11/17. Also, I have about 12 books of 'Henrietta Lacks' in my room that are available to check out. First come, first serve!

23- More H-Wbg Practice Problems (optional, but highly encouraged)
24- More Phylogenetic Tree & Cladogram construction practice needed? Try this site
DAILY AGENDA 10-19-2016 FOR ALL BLOCKS (classes didn't meet today due to standardized testing). Worksheets are posted above and the Bozeman video link and worksheet for 'Stickleback' is posted below (under 'Videos')
Reference Materials for this Unit:
1- "Concepts of Evolution" PPt (from Magnet Biology) is in the Power Point section of this blog (scroll up)
2- Hardy Weinberg Worked Sample Problems
3- 'Hardy Weinberg' PPt (with examples): In Power Point section of this blog (scroll up)
4- Go to youtube.com and search for 'Science with Mr.J'. He has video lectures for almost every chapter in AP Bio, using our book. Since our time is becoming very limited, my 'lectures' over the remaining chapters will also be brief. He does a very good job with covering the material. If you find another lecture series that's good, please let me know!
5- Need help with phylogenetic trees? Here are some very good youtube videos for understanding cladograms (including monophyletic, paraphyletic, polyphyletic, parsimony, etc): Here's one from Kahn Academy that shows you how to 'build a tree' and another one that gives a very clear example of parsimony.
1- Bozeman- AP Bio 'Natural Selection'. Complete this sheet.
2- Bozeman- Comparing DNA Sequences. (How to Use BLAST data base)
3- Bozeman- Phylogenetic Trees (alternate: this one from Kahn Academy )
4- Phylogenetic Trees- watch first. Then, Phylo. Trees Practice. *The guy ('SimpleBiology') who made these made an entire series of Evolution videos recently (fall 2017) and they are REALLY GOOD.
5- Parsimony (and here's another one that gives a very clear example of parsimony).
6- Hardy Weinberg- see SimpleBiology series on youtube, above, (#4) or watch Bozeman Hardy-Weinberg on youtube.
7- BLAST tutorial: This one is the most clear cut for what we are doing, but the example shown uses a protein sequence of amino acids, instead of a nucleotide sequence. This one is good, but you may want to fast forward to around the 7:25 minute mark and start it there.
8- 'Science with Mr.J' video series for AP Bio on youtube.com. More info on this is posted under "Reference Materials", directly above.
9- Stickleback Video with Quiz (we will either do this one or the Bozeman one, below). May have to be done in next unit-2017
10- Bozeman AP Bio Stickleback video and worksheet. May have to be done with next unit in 2017.
1- AP Bio Evolution Study Guide Ch 21-26
2- Ch 22-24 only
3- Study Guide: Evolution- Key Terms
4- Evolution 'Top Ten'
5- 'Big Idea 1' (Evolution) Review
6- Practice MC Questions (will give a hard copy in class on Thursday)
7- Be sure and use your Test Prep (paperback) book. If you haven't ordered a 'new' one (published since 2013 Exam revision), I would highly recommend it before the AP Exam. Info in right hand column.
Chapter Outlines (Pearson site- Instructor resource). I had a request to post these, so here they are:
UNIT #7- Brief 'Taxonomy', 'Prokaryotes' and 'Plants':
(Also: Very brief 'General Classification of Protists and Fungi' )
*IMPORTANT! I AM REWORKING THIS UNIT FOR 2017-2018. THE INFORMATION BELOW THE LINE (scroll down a bit) IS FROM LAST YEAR, SO PLEASE DISREGARD ANYTHING YOU SEE THERE. PLEASE CHECK BACK OFTEN FOR UPDATES.
Do all Reading Guides or take thorough notes.
Scroll up for PPts
Here's what to know for the Unit 7 test. A Review sheet for Prokaryotes thru Fungi is under "More Review" at the end of this Unit 7 section.
In addition to the Ch 27 PPt on Prokaryotes, go over this for Antibiotic Resistance and know the bold terms
1. Classification Chart: You don't have to fill in the Animals until we get to that unit. You may also create an excel file to complete this assignment (I showed you an example on the white board). Parade through the Kingdoms packet (omit Animals until next unit)
2. Transformation Video and Worksheet: Bozeman
3. Bacterial Transformation Virtual Lab: 2017. (2016-LabBench- Transformation. Go to Pearson site and complete this sheet )
4. BioFlix- Go to the Pearson site, click on BioFlix and watch "Water Transport". Complete this worksheet. Do the quiz and put the answers in your journal.
5. If you need to go over the basics of Water Potential, take a look at this
6. Here's a sheet (key included) you did on 'Water Potential Problems' back in August. Go over it! If you need more help, go over my Water Potential PPt and/or review the Bozeman video you watched in Unit 2. You could also take a look at the LabBench you did on Water Potential in Ch 2
7. Watch these Bozeman Videos: A) Plants; B) Plant Structure; C) Plant Nutrition and Transport; D) Plant Control (Hormones)
8. Water Potential Problems- required!
9. Transpiration Virtual Lab 2017
9. LabBench- Transpiration- PreLab (2016). Complete the sheet (hard copy provided...can't find electronic file) while you do the interactive. Take the quiz at the end and write the answers at the end of the handout. Attach handout to the next virtual lab (#10)
10. Transpiration Virtual Lab 2016 (will not do 'wet' lab- not enough time). Go to this site and complete the sheet (hard copy given in class)
11. Nutrition and Transport questions
12. Plant Hormones- POGIL
13. Video- Life Cycle of Angiosperms (youtube)
All outlines that I have posted previously for other units were Pearson Instructor Guides for teachers. I am reluctant to post any of those for this unit, as we are not covering everything in every chapter (and I don't have time to revise those, as I'm in process of doing that already with the PPts). Power Points (posted above, scroll up) will be your best resource. However, here is one that's pretty good for Ch 35 and Ch 36. I will post any others I run across that I think will be beneficial.

Great video series on youtube for Plants. Here's the link.
1- STUDY GUIDE FOR PROKARYOTES, PROTISTS, FUNGI
2- Plants Review Sheet. Also: Go over my PPts to study the Plants. If you need more detail, go read about it in your book. BUT, do not focus on any topics in your book that were not mentioned in the PPts or review sheet. Parts of many chapters were omitted, as they are not in the AP Standards.
3- Good youtube video for Test Review - Plants-Part 1
Click here for Plants- Part 2
4- Log in to the Pearson site. Go to the Study Area and select 'Cumulative Test'. Pick the chapters you want and take a Practice Exam.
(primarily Human Body Systems, with some emphasis on Animal Form & Function and Animal Behavior)
